Why we built HomeAlmanac.
A home app should outlast the company that made it. Most are not built that way. Ours is.
The problem was not missing features. It was trust.
For years, homeowners have been asked to pour their most annoying-to-recreate records into apps: every serial number, every warranty, every receipt, every repair. The apps were fine. The deal was not. When a home app shuts down, and several have, the records go with it. People who spent years documenting their homes got an email, a deadline, and an export button if they were lucky.
Centriq was the wake-up call.
When Centriq announced its shutdown, its users learned the hard way that "your data" mostly meant "our database". The panic in those forum threads is what started this project. Not a competitive analysis. The simple, uncomfortable question: why does keeping track of your own house require trusting a startup to stay alive?
So we inverted the architecture.
HomeAlmanac keeps your records on your device, and in your own iCloud if you turn syncing on. We run no server that stores them. There is nothing for us to lose, leak, or shut down. If HomeAlmanac disappeared tomorrow, the app on your phone would keep working, and everything in it could be exported as a readable archive: JSON, PDF, and your original documents and photos, in a zip you can keep forever.
The business model matches.
The free tier is not a trial. Viewing and exporting your records is free forever, because holding your data hostage is exactly what we set out to end. Premium adds capacity and power features (more appliances and documents, cost tracking, recall alerts), never a ransom on what you already saved.
What it actually does, day to day.
Answer a few questions about your home and HomeAlmanac builds a maintenance schedule tuned to your systems and climate, reminds you at the right moment, and keeps the paper trail: manuals, warranties, receipts, service history, photos. Quietly, on your device, in your language.
That is the whole pitch. A calm app, a fair deal, and records that are yours in the only sense that matters: they survive us.
